Common Questions

What Vista employers ask us about group health insurance.

How long can a Vista employer make new hires wait for health coverage?

Up to 90 days. Federal rules cap waiting periods at 90 days, and many employers choose the first of the month after 30 or 60 days. Federal rules also allow an orientation period of up to one month before the waiting period starts.

Do employees with Medi-Cal count against my participation requirement?

Usually not. Insurers generally treat employees who waive because they have other coverage, including Medi-Cal or a spouse’s plan, as valid waivers that don’t count against your minimum. We confirm how your insurer handles it before you enroll.

Can a small Vista manufacturer afford a group health plan?

Many can. The minimum is usually 50% of employee-only premiums, and choosing a Bronze or Silver plan lowers that cost. Employers with fewer than 25 full-time-equivalent employees and modest average wages may also qualify for the small business tax credit through Covered California for Small Business.

Is the Tri-City hospital in our group plan?

It depends on the plan. Tri-City Medical Center is the district hospital for Vista and moved under Sharp HealthCare’s management in 2026 as Sharp Tri-City Medical Center. We check whether each group plan includes it before you choose.

Are group health materials available in Spanish?

Many insurers and Covered California for Small Business offer enrollment materials and member services in Spanish, and health plans must provide interpreter services to members. We can help you request them for your team.
